p1000763Carp Fishing in France at the Moulin Lake

Our glorious private 2.5 acre Moulin Lake contains some 60 immaculate carp (mirror & common & 15-45lbs), plus a pair of sizeable grass carp – all offering a great challenge.

Only 35 metres from the courtyard cottages, there’s flat, easy-access all around the lake. With 4 decked swims, as well as other good spots and a very popular easily accessible island, there’s a range of different open water areas to fish into.

Carp fishing in France on your doorstep has rarely been so appealing!

There are 3 months when the Moulin Lake can be booked for 2-4 fishermen during the summer by at the minimum renting the Fisherman’s Cottage for 6 people, plus any other cottages required (one for 4 people another for 2 people) if your group is larger, up to a maximum of 12.

Set in 15 acres of lush meadows and woodland, the Moulin Lake is stream-fed with fresh water, while an overflow ensures good circulation and oxygenation all year. It is also fed by a natural spring beneath the waters, so it never dries out, even during hot summers.

The lake is lined by a wide variety of mature trees and wild flowers, while abundant wildlife, including kingfishers, woodpeckers and red squirrels, simply add to the delightful carp fishing environment.

There is a decked swim on the nearest bank accessing the deeper area of the lake – around 5 feet – and a second is under a shady walnut tree, near the feature island in the centre – another very popular fishing spot with its wide-ranging lake access.

The two remaining swims are on the opposite side of the lake which tapers to around three feet deep at the shallower silty-bottomed top end where the stream water constantly enters the lake.

Carp fishing for up to four anglers is comfortable if everyone is respectful – we’ve had some cracking competition and banter, but no arguments yet! There are no outside ‘day tickets’ allowed. Only those booked into a cottage can fish.

Even in the summer months of July and August, we rarely, if ever, exceed four anglers in a week – and anyway, larger groups often choose to book the whole complex to ensure exclusive lake use.

Professionally netted out from time to time, the Moulin Lake has no cat, crayfish or other problem fish, and all our perfectly marked carp offer a really good challenge as our lake has never been over-fished, (unlike too many UK commercial waters), which keeps the carp both clever and wary too!

With a good head of several 40’s, big 30’s and high 20’s, the Lake Record is a 45.0lbs mirror. The Women’s LR is a 36.2lbs mirror.

The lake is carefully supplemented most years by adding a small selection of quality mirrors and commons from arguably France’s top carp supplier. We’ve come a long way since at a public lake-emptying, we rescued an early sentimental oddity 'Nelson' - a large mirror with a damaged top fin - from a destined fate on a French dinner plate!

The Moulin Lake is carefully managed all year round as we care passionately about the health of our carp and their surroundings. With our own on site bait shop/service and English-speaking assistance we are certain you will not be disappointed.

There is no fishing during the October to April winter rest period. Night fishing in season is absolutely possible on request for those with adequate experience and head/lighting gear.

In summer of course, there is plenty of daylight carp fishing time, from early morning until late evening, and due to the close proximity of the cottages, a relaxing dip in the pool or BBQ is just moments away.

This is a beautiful carp fishing venue and all we ask is you read and follow the Fishing Rules which are there to protect the healthy environment, the pristine carp and the beautiful lake and ensure it all remains that way for others in the future.
