Area Attractions
The Moulin Lake lies in secluded countryside in a department called Indre-et-Loire, in the ‘Centre’ region of France.
We know how much carp fishermen prefer to stay by the lake as long as possible, but there are a mass of superb attractions nearby for everybody.
Moulin de Boutineau is just two kilometres from the medieval town of Loches, so within easy reach of all the shops and amenities you might need, plus all the main routes around the Loire Valley region.
This stunning historical heartland region of Touraine, long renowned as ‘The Garden of France’, is celebrated for its fine wines (Vouvray, Chinon & Bourgueil), delicious goat’s cheese, near-perfect French accent and spectacular royal history.
The nearest major supermarket and a superb patisserie are only 5 minutes drive in the village of Perrusson, but Loches is equally close and holds lively morning markets every Wednesday and Saturday.
The colourful stalls are brimming with fresh local fruit and vegetables, amazing cheeses and sausages, plus delicious breads, pastries and spit-roasted chickens, but there are many relaxing cafes to sit and watch the world go by with a coffee or enjoy a gourmet lunch!
Loches with its maze of cobbled streets is rich in history and one of the best preserved old towns in France. For a spectacular view of the town and surrounds visit the 11th century Dungeon and Keep as well as the 15th century castle.
All the other major Loire chateau’s are within easy reach, but graceful Chenonceau – a Renaissance classic on the majestic River Cher, and Amboise towering above one of the prettiest town’s on the River Loire, are among the most special and rewarding to visit. In the summer a few chateau’s hold evening ‘son et lumiere’ light or music shows.
Also within easy reach are golf, tennis, canoeing and horse riding, or a relaxing walk or cycle in the extensive Loches Forest, while the fabulous zoo with its special pandas at nearby St Aignan is arguably the best and most popular in France.
Lots of leaflets in your cottage folder highlight these and many other area attractions. Just ask us if you need advice or help on anything. We can tell you what in our opinion best suit your group as we’ve visited most of them!
You may choose to drop into the helpful Loches Tourist office, where they speak English, or see what events are planned during your stay by looking up www.loches-tourainecotesud.com on the net.
